Liposuction

Procedure

Liposuction is performed on both men and women of all sizes and shapes. It can be performed on almost any part of the
body that contains unwanted fat collection.

Liposuction will help improve your body shape, which can help you look thinner and lose inches, however it is not to be used as a weight loss method. If you have sagging skin, we may recommend a skin tightening procedure such as a tummy tuck.

The purpose of your initial consultation with Dr. Gharakhani, you will be evaluated to determine if you will benefit from liposuction, or tummy tuck to remove your unwanted fat and contour your torso.
The procedure generally involves, sedation and injection of a tumescent fluid to numb the abdomen and prevent excess bleeding. Several punch holes, approximately 2 mm in diameter is made in strategic location on the torso to allow with the liposuction.

The ideal liposuction patient has localized fat deposits and good skin tone. If any of the below apply to you, liposuction may be right for you.
• Excess fat on the upper or lower abdomen, hips, thighs, neck, back, knees, or arms.
• Fat is resistant to diet and/or exercise.
• Problem areas are out of proportion with the rest of your body.
• Good skin elasticity. Sagging, loose skin is not an issue.
• At or near your desired body weight. You are not using this procedure for weight loss.
• You are healthy and don’t have any medical issues which would preclude you from having surgery.

Liposuction isn’t right for everyone. Your goals must be realistic about what the procedure can and cannot do for you. Liposuction alone may not be right for you if you have poor skin quality or if you want to lose a significant amount of weight.

Liposuction will only address subcutaneous fat, which is the fat located just below the skin’s surface. It will not remove visceral fat, also known as intra-abdominal fat, which is internal fat located around the liver, stomach and other organs. This type of fat can only be addressed through weight loss resulting from diet and exercise.

Fat Grafting

Fat grafting, also called fat transfer, is an excellent method to increase volume in virtually any area of the body. Rather than relying on synthetic fillers, we use your own fat to enhance areas that have "deflated" or could benefit from enhancement. Face, breast, and buttocks are common sites of treatment.

BENEFITS:

  • We use your own fat, so there is no danger of rejection
  • Long lasting, and potentially permanent, unlike synthetic fillers that last only a few months
  • We harvest the fat from any area you request, so we can "trim down" areas of unwanted fat accumulation at the same time

DRAWBACKS:

  • Survival of fat is often unpredictable. (Fat is a living tissue. When we remove it from an area, it loses its blood supply. It will regenerate a blood supply in the new area, but whether it will happen quickly enough to keep the fat alive is variable.Generally, about 70% of the transplanted fat will survive)
  • We have to harvest new fat with each procedure. Many physicians will freeze fat and use it later. Although there is nothing wrong with doing this, we have found frozen fat to be less predictable and vital, so we prefer to use fresh fat each time.
  • Multiple sessions may be necessary to achieve final result.
